About Padma Puran

महर्षि वेदव्यास द्वारा रचित संस्कृत भाषा में रचे गए अठारह पुराणों में से एक पुराण ग्रंथ है। सभी अठारह पुराणों की गणना के क्रम में ‘पद्म पुराण’ को द्वितीय स्थान प्राप्त है। श्लोक संख्या की दृष्टि से भी यह द्वितीय स्थान पर है। पहला स्थान स्कन्द पुराण को प्राप्त है। पद्म का अर्थ है-‘कमल का पुष्प’। चूँकि सृष्टि-रचयिता ब्रह्माजी ने भगवान् नारायण के नाभि-कमल से उत्पन्न होकर सृष्टि-रचना संबंधी ज्ञान का विस्तार किया था, इसलिए इस पुराण को पद्म पुराण की संज्ञा दी गयी है। इस पुराण में भगवान् विष्णु की विस्तृत महिमा के साथ भगवान् श्रीराम तथा श्रीकृष्ण के चरित्र, विभिन्न तीर्थों का माहात्म्य शालग्राम का स्वरूप, तुलसी-महिमा तथा विभिन्न व्रतों का सुन्दर वर्णन है।
