About Bhavishya Puran

भविष्य पुराण १८ प्रमुख पुराणों में से एक है। विषय-वस्तु एवं वर्णन-शैली की दृष्टि से यह एक विशेष ग्रंथ है। इसमें धर्म, सदाचार, नीति, उपदेश, अनेकों आख्यान, व्रत, तीर्थ, दान, ज्योतिष एवं आयुर्वेद के विषयों का संग्रह है। वेताल-विक्रम-संवाद के रूप में इसमें रमणीय कथा-प्रबन्ध है। इसके अतिरिक्त इसमें नित्यकर्म, संस्कार, सामुद्रिक लक्षण, शान्ति तथा पौष्टिक कर्म आराधना और अनेक व्रतोंका भी विस्तृत वर्णन है। भविष्य पुराण में भविष्य में होने वाली घटनाओं का वर्णन है। इससे पता चलता है कि ईसा और मुहम्मद के जन्म से बहुत पहले ही भविष्य पुराण में महर्षि वेद व्यास ने पुराण ग्रंथ लिखते समय मुस्लिम धर्म के उद्भव और विकास तथा ईसा मसीह तथा उनके द्वारा प्रारंभ किए गए ईसाई धर्म के विषय में लिख दिया था।

यह पुराण में भारतवर्ष के वर्तमान समस्त आधुनिक इतिहास का वर्णन है। इसके प्रतिसर्गपर्व के तृतीय तथा चतुर्थ खण्ड में इतिहास की महत्त्वपूर्ण सामग्री विद्यमान है। इतिहास लेखकों ने प्रायः इसी का आधार लिया है। इसमें मध्यकालीन हर्षवर्धन महाराज पृथ्वीराज चौहान, महावीर बप्पा रावल,हेमू आदि हिन्दू राजाओं और अलाउद्दीन, मुहम्मद तुगलक, तैमूरलंग, बाबर तथा अकबर आदि का वर्णन है। इसके मध्यमपर्व में समस्त कर्मकाण्ड का निरूपण है। इसमें वर्णित व्रत और दान से सम्बद्ध विषय भी महत्त्वपूर्ण हैं। इतने विस्तार से व्रतों का वर्णन न किसी अन्य पुराण, धर्मशास्त्र में मिलता है और न किसी स्वतन्त्र व्रत-संग्रह के ग्रन्थ में। हेमाद्रि, व्रतकल्पद्रुम, व्रतरत्नाकर, व्रतराज आदि परवर्ती व्रत-साहित्य में मुख्यरूप से भविष्यपुराण का ही आश्रय लिया गया है।

भविष्य पुराण के अनुसार, इसके श्लोकों की संख्या पचास हजार के लगभग होनी चाहिए। परन्तु वर्तमान में कुल १४,००० श्लोक ही उपलब्ध हैं। विषय-वस्तु, वर्णनशैली तथा काव्य-रचना की दृष्टि से भविष्यपुराण महत्वपूर्ण ग्रन्थ है। इसकी कथाएँ रोचक तथा प्रभावोत्कपादक हैं।

भविष्य पुराण में भगवान सूर्य नारायण की महिमा, उनके स्वरूप, पूजा उपासना विधि का विस्तार से उल्लेख किया गया है। इसीलिए इसे ‘सौर-पुराण’ या ‘सौर ग्रन्थ’ भी कहा गया है।
