About Agni Puran

अग्निपुराण पुराण साहित्य में अपनी व्यापक दृष्टि तथा विशाल ज्ञान भंडार के कारण विशिष्ट स्थान रखता है। विषय की विविधता एवं लोकोपयोगिता की दृष्टि से इस पुराण का विशेष महत्त्व है। अनेक विद्वानों ने विषयवस्‍तु के आधार पर इसे 'भारतीय संस्‍कृति का विश्‍वकोश' कहा है। अग्निपुराण में त्रिदेवों – ब्रह्मा, विष्‍णु एवं शिव तथा सूर्य की पूजा-उपासना का वर्णन किया गया है। इसमें परा-अपरा विद्याओं का वर्णन, महाभारत के सभी पर्वों की संक्षिप्त कथा, रामायण की संक्षिप्त कथा, मत्स्य, कूर्म आदि अवतारों की कथाएँ, सृष्टि-वर्णन, दीक्षा-विधि, वास्तु-पूजा, विभिन्न देवताओं के मन्त्र आदि अनेक उपयोगी विषयों का अत्यन्त सुन्दर प्रतिपादन किया गया है।

इस पुराण के वक्‍ता भगवान अग्निदेव हैं, अतः यह 'अग्निपुराण' कहलाता है। अत्‍यंत लघु आकार होने पर भी इस पुराण में सभी विद्याओं का समावेश किया गया है। इस दृष्टि से अन्‍य पुराणों की अपेक्षा यह और भी विशिष्‍ट तथा महत्‍वपूर्ण हो जाता है।

पद्म पुराण में भगवान् विष्‍णु के पुराणमय स्‍वरूप का वर्णन किया गया है और अठारह पुराण भगवान के 18 अंग कहे गए हैं। उसी पुराणमय वर्णन के अनुसार ‘अग्नि पुराण’ को भगवान विष्‍णु का बायां चरण कहा गया है।
